Four Deal primary schools take part in seven-aside Goodwin Academy Challenge Shield

The inaugural match to win the Goodwin Academy Challenge Shield saw youngsters from four primary schools compete.
A total 70 pupils took part in the seven-a-side tournament organised by the secondary school’s football academy on the all-weather turf at Mill Road.

Teams from The Downs, Warden House and Sandown took part but the acclaimed title went to Deal Parochial School, led by coach Simon Earl.

In the weeks prior to the tournament, the youngsters took part in a training session in preparation for the event, run by Goodwin Football Academy Head Coach, Liam Friend.

Director of the Mill Road site Matthew Evans said: “It is incredibly important for the local community that Goodwin Academy supports students of all abilities and interests, and so the Challenge Shield will, we hope, become a vital part of the work we do in the community.”

He added that the event was a success with all pupils supporting each other.
