Deal Pier was given a touch of pink at the Stepping Out walk for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

The event on Saturday was organised by fundraiser Kerry Rubins and more than 70 people took part, raising £866.91.

It started at the Walmer Castle car park and along the seafront with The Chequers bar and restaurant, in Golf Road, as the halfway point of the 8.3 mile walk.

Miss Rubins said: “It was an brilliant event though the weather didn’t hold out we didn’t let that dampen our spirits.

“Deal Mayor Marlene Burnham came and she was fantastic. We had a warm-up work out and Marlene really got involved. She was giving it everything she could and she was there right to the very end.

“MP Charlie Elphicke also attended and promised to actually take part in the walk next year.”

Along with the mayor and Deal MP, walkers were also joined by Kate Cherry from the community fundraising head office of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Anyone with sponsorship money is asked to get in contact with Kerry Rubins and she can arrange to collect it, call her on 07708913976.

There will also be another event raising money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer on Friday next week (November 1), with the Inspire Pole Fitness cabaret night at the Astor Theatre, starting at 8pm. Tickets are available from the box office or ring 01304 370220.
