His brother, in a letter to the popular BBC programme, said: “My brother was very brave.

“The man fell on the floor in a fit so Jake went to the man and took off his coat and put it under his head and left the man to go and get help.”

The incident happened near his grandmother’s home in Windsor Court.

Max added in his letter: “Me and my nan thought he was very brave and acted with courage and was very sensible in the way he responded.”

Mum Helen said: “As a single mother I have always taught them basic first aid if there is an emergency.”

Max got the idea to apply for a Blue Peter badge after being set a task for homework at his school.
