Dead dolphin found on Walmer Beach

A dead dolphin has been found washed up on the beach in Walmer today.

The creature was discovered by Richard Baker, 71, at around noon when he was taking a stroll near Alexandra Road.

Speaking to KentOnline, he said: “I’d say it’s approximately five foot and weighs over 80 pounds. It’s quite a sizeable fish.”

Mr Baker, of Liverpool Road, said he is aware of a number of dolphins washing up in Cornwall and hopes it is not due to pollution in the English Channel.

He said: “I’m pretty sure it’s a Channel Dolphin. The ones that are being washed up in Cornwall are bottle-nosed, but this isn’t.

“It’s dark blue in colour and has a horizontal tail.

“I think it has virtually just happened. There was also some dead dog fish.”
