Driver saves his own classic car from fire ruin in Ringwould

Firefighters have commended the owner of a classic car who acted swiftly to save it from being destroyed.

One appliance from Deal went to the scene in Front Street, Ringwould at around 2.30pm, yesterday.

A man, believed to be from Deal, had taken his metallic green E-Type Jaguar out for a spin in the sunshine when he noticed smoke coming from it, urging him to pull over outside The Five Bells.

Identifying there had been an electrical fault behind the dashboard, he used a fire extinguisher he was carrying to disconnect the power.

In doing this, he stopped the fire from spreading.

Watch manager David Potter said: “It was a concealed fire which could have spread if he didn’t take the right action.

“We carried out an inspection for him and checked the area was cooling.

“It’s a very collectible classic car. He saved it.”

The vehicle was unable to be driven. It was collected and taken to be repaired.
