A man in Deal has swapped mobile phone providers after being told EE had decommissioned two masts

A man in Deal has swapped mobile phone providers after being told EE had decommissioned two masts in the area.

Peter Tullo, of St George’s Road, joined EE about a year ago.

The service was good until he noticed a difference in his signal a couple of months ago, but said that it righted itself.

“Then two weeks ago it got worse again,” he said.

“I got through to one of the technicians who said that two masts in the Deal area are being decommissioned and weren’t going to be improved.

“It took me a good couple of hours to get information.”

Mr Tullo said: “The reception is not here.”

He was tied into a two year contract, then spoke to the loyalty department. Under the loyalty clause of his contract, he was able to terminate it, allowing him to move to another provider - O2.

Mr Tullo feels EE, formerly Orange, are not offering a proper service to its customers if they do not inform people what is happening.

He said: “They’re not being honest. I think people who have it (EE) ought to know.”

On contacting EE, a spokesman told the Mercury the company was pleased to report a full service had been restored to the Deal area and apologised for the inconvenience caused.

However, Mr Tullo claims full service has not been restored and other residents in Deal have made similar complaints over bad signal with EE. Mr Tullo believes this is due to the masts being decommissioned.

A spokesman explained they were sorry if any incorrect information has been shared but that no recent decommissioning work had been carried out in the area.

Mr Tullo says that was why he left EE in the first place because he had been told the masts were being decommissioned and therefore the signal would not be getting better.

EE is now investigating his case.
