Pensioner airlifted to hospital after car overturns in lamppost crash on Whitfield Hill near Dover

An 84-year-old man is fighting for life in hospital after his car crashed on Whitfield Hill near Dover this morning.

Police were called at 9.55am after the car, travelling down the hill, hit a lamppost and overturned.

Fire and ambulance crews also attended the scene and the road was closed for a while.

The man's red Daihatsu Sirion ended up on its roof at the junction with London Road.

The elderly driver has been flown to King's College Hospital, in London, by the air ambulance with life-threatening injuries.

Police said no other people or vehicles were involved in the crash and anyone who witnessed it is asked to come forward.

The route is currently being used as a diversion because of roadworks on the A2 at Jubilee Way.
