Former Deal & Betteshanger player Danny Herriott has been ruled out of this summer’s IRB Junior World Championships with a shoulder injury.

Herriott was originally included in the England under-20 squad for the tournament, which takes place in France in June.

However, the Northampton Saints prop (pictured) injured his shoulder while playing for Championship club Moseley, with whom he is dual-registered.

He said: "I was playing for Moseley at Rotherham. The scrum collapsed and I landed awkwardly.

"I was pencilled in for the (England) squad but due to the injury, I can’t play now.

"It’s pretty gutting but on the positive side, it’s the end of the season so I’ll hopefully be fit for next season."

Herriott may need an operation over the summer but he said: "It’s not definite yet. I’m seeing a specialist in Manchester and I’ll do loads of rehab."

The Deal-born player featured for the England side which clinched a third successive Six Nations title earlier this year.
