Lifeboat joins search for missing person

Dover’s lifeboat volunteers were diverted from routine training to help search for a person believed to be at risk in the area of Shakespeare Cliff.

Coastguards called on the lifeboat crew, while they were at sea, to take part in the search.

Under the command of deputy coxswain Mark Finnis, they went to the area off Shakespeare Beach where police, Coastguard bvolunteers fro,m Folkestone and Langdon were searching the beach and surround area. A search and rescue helicopter from Lee-on-Solent was also called to scene and used its infrared cameras.

The lifeboat crew launched their inflatable Y boat and, togethher with the all-weather Severn class lifeboat, they searched the shoreline and the sea between the Admiralty Pier and the Warren.

No-one was found and the search was eventually called off.
