Man charged following raid in Queen Street in Deal

A man in Deal has been charged with possession of stolen goods after his Queen Street flat was raided.

Steven Frederick Songhurst, 30, was remanded to appear in court and has been bailed while police inquiries continue.

A warrant was executed on Friday when officers gained entry to the flat behind The Cutting Room hair salon.

A number of items were recovered including memory sticks, a mobile phone, Ray-Ban sunglasses and more than 10 bottles of perfume and aftershave including brands Dior, Calvin Klein and Joop!

Three police cars and a van were seen in the road for several hours from 8.45am on Friday while officers searched the flat.

A police spokesman said: “A number of items were seized and 30-year-old Steven Frederick Songhurst was charged under the Proceeds of Crime Act.”

Police would not comment on whether the raid was linked to a number of
break-ins reported in Deal town centre in recent weeks.

A police spokesman said: “Officers are still investigating.”

Songhurst is due to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on June 16.
