Norovirus outbreak prompts temporary closure at JD Wetherspoon pub The Sir Norman Wisdom, in Queen Street, Deal

An outbreak of winter vomiting bug Norovirus has led to the temporary closure of the Deal branch of JD Wetherspoon.

Customers of The Sir Norman Wisdom in Queen Street have arrived at the pub to find its doors closed and a note says it'll stay shut until Saturday.

Eddie Gershon, spokesman for the chain, said: “We can confirm that the pub has closed for 48 hours due to an outbreak of norovirus among some members of staff at the pub."

He added: “We are investigating the cause.

“At present we are undertaking appropriate action within the pub to ensure it is okay to reopen in due course.”

The Sir Norman Wisdom was named after the late comedy icon of the same name who grew up in Deal and remained a frequent visitor to the town and supporter of events. It opened in March 2013.
