A tanker has crashed into a ditch with 13,000 litres of fuel on board.

Environment Agency, firefighters and police have been on the scene, amid fears the tanker would spill some of its contents.

Fire were first called to Richborough Road, Sandwich at 11:52am, but left at 2.19pm as there were no injuries.

Staff from the Environment Agency's Stour Ops team was working on site to block the ditch, after the fuel started leaking into the watercourse.

It was then hoped a second tanker could be used to suck up the fuel before the first tanker could be righted.

A recovery company was asked to attend after pressure from the oil on the valves sparked the leak.

Richborough Road was closed as rescue workers dealt with spill.
