Oxfam Bookshop in Deal calls for donations for survivors of Nepal earthquake

Oxfam in Deal is raising life-saving funds for those affected by Nepal’s devastating earthquake.

Deputy manager Robb Bennell has asked for any cash donations to be left in the Oxfam Bookshop in the High Street, Deal, which is open Monday to Saturday from 9.30am until 5pm.

He said: “We have all seen the terrible images and we all want to help, in however small a way. Donating in the shop is easy and will make a real difference to Oxfam’s emergency work.”

The earthquake which hit Nepal last Saturday is the largest in eighty years. It rocked the whole country and destroyed entire sections of the capital city Kathmandu. Although the property damage is high, the human cost is worse, with the death toll continually rising.

An Oxfam emergency team is already stationed in Nepal, and a group of technical experts are flying from the UK and neighbouring Thailand with supplies to provide clean water, sanitation and emergency food supplies.

The Oxfam team is certain that just £5 will buy water purification tablets to keep families safe.

Anyone willing to support Oxfam’s emergency appeal can also donate online at www.oxfam.org.uk, by phone on 0300 200 1999 or by texting EMERGENCY to 70066 to give £5.
