Pensioner robbed outside Iceland in Deal

A pensioner was robbed of £200 after visiting a cashpoint.

It was reported the 89-year-old woman was walking along the High Street in Deal yesterday after withdrawing the money from a bank.

She turned into Queen Street just before 5pm and was walking past Iceland supermarket when she was grabbed from behind and her purse was taken.

Detective Inspector Dave Cox said: "The suspect was described as a white boy, aged around 16 or 17 and wearing a black tracksuit.

"He was chased by members of the public in the direction of Blenheim Road, before they lost sight of him.

"Whilst we carry out our enquiries and review CCTV opportunities we would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened or who has further information and has not yet been in touch."

Sue Robinson, a manager at Victoria Mews sheltered accommodation where the elderly woman lives, is also urging anyone with information to come forward.

She said: "This lady loves going into town and having a little walk around but I think that will be her last time.

"It's really knocked her.

"We wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else."
