People of all ages have been having their say on how £1 million worth of lottery money should be spent in Dover.

Big Local representative Carl Adams said he was particularly impressed with some of the young people who called in for the consultation event, called the Big Conversation, which was organised to launch the project at Dover Town Hall on Saturday to talk about the things they would like to see happening in Dover.

“We had a steady stream of people coming in throughout the day, individuals, families and teenagers," said Mr Adams.

"We even had some American tourists from a cruise ship who said they thought more should be done to tap into the history of the town, and attract more passengers from the cruise ships.”

Generating more interest in the Big Local in the town centre were performing arts students from K College who were putting on a series of five-minute flash mob performances in the Market Square, Pencester Gardens and outside the town hall.

Another £20,000 has been allocated to get the project off the ground and the Dover Society has been chosen as the trusted local organisation to be responsible for managing the banking and financial arrangements.

A part-time community development worker is to be appointed to spearhead the initiative.

Anyone who wants to be involved can join the Dover Big Local Facebook group, contact Mr Adams on 07771 932605 or email carl.adams@ruralkent.org.uk or Ross Miller, chair of the Dover Big Local Facilitation Team, on 07852 235957, email ross@mastertonrobindesigns.co.uk
