Power has been restored to Dover town centre following a blackout this afternoon.

Parts of the main street were without electricity for just over an hour. Properties affected range from Castle Street to Bridge Street, although businesses in the Market Square, just around the corner from Castle Street, reported they still had power.

The black out also affected part of the seafront and several sets of traffic lights.

It happened at 3.12pm, and people living as far away as River reported a split-second power cut, although supplies there were restored immediately.

UK Power Networks, who manage the electrical network in Kent, said: "Our engineers quickly restored electricity supplies to customers in Dover today after a fault on the underground network in the Cambridge Terrace area.

"About 900 customers experienced an interruption at 3.12pm. All had power once again by 4.19pm. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
