Views sought on Waitrose in Sandwich

Plans for a Waitrose shop and new doctors surgery in Sandwich will go on show at a public exhibition on Thursday.

Waitrose developer Kimberley, and the partners of The Butchery Doctors Surgery are inviting local residents to view and discuss the plans.

The proposal is for a site on the eastern side of Dover Road next to the former Blue Berries early care and education centre.

The 18,000sq ft Waitrose could supply up to 150 jobs and aims to meet the need for a new supermarket in the town. This comes after a retail report commissioned by Dover District Council last year suggested that approximately 70% of Sandwich’s food expenditure is going to supermarket’s outside of the town.

The Butchery Surgery, which is combining its new premises with the Waitrose development, hope to provide more services and facilities as well as an on-site pharmacy.

Newsletters are being delivered to local residents with details of the plans and asking for their feedback.

The public exhibition will be at The Guildhall, Cattle Market, today from 11am to 7.30pm and representatives from Waitrose will be on hand to answer any questions.

The developer Kimberley is aiming to submit a planning application in the next few months.

If successful, they aim to start work in early summer 2014 and open the new development in spring 2015.
