Search is on for calendar boys and girls in Deal

Men and women who would like to feature in a charity calendar in aid of Breast Cancer Now are invited to Wallet’s Court Hotel in St Margaret’s today.

The Calendar Girls of Deal 2016 will be shot throughout the day, but anyone who would like to be in the group shot for the month of October is asked to arrive just before noon. The shoot is expected to take no longer than an hour.

David and Jodie Christie from photography business Crystal Memories will be capturing the images.

People can take along their desired props to cover their chests, although pink petals made by artist Cheri Hadaway as well as Breast Cancer Now merchandise and banners will be available on the day.

Breast Cancer Now ambassador Kerry Rubins, who is organising the event, said: “The only stipulation for the actual shoot is that no bras are allowed.”

The calendar was inspired by a social media user’s complaint about an image posted on Katie Gardner’s Facebook page. Mrs Gardner wanted something positive to result from the comment and recruited Miss Rubins to help her.

The stars of the calendar, whose identities are being kept a secret, include cancer survivors, people going through treatment, volunteers and local groups.

For October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Miss Rubins wants to feature men and women, to highlight the fact that men can get the disease too.

Miss Rubins said: “I am so excited about the photo shoot. After having a meeting this week with the main participants, we are all absolutely buzzing.

“It was great to discuss the individual shots with the photographer and make-up artists and hear their fabulous ideas of how they are going to work with us all. It’s going to be epic!”

The calendars will cost £10 and available in October from the East Kent Mercury office in Queen Street, UBeauty in the High Street, The Sun House in Park Street and Miss Rubins.

Miss Rubins has asked for the businesses who have agreed to sponsor the calendar to email kerryrubins@hotmail.com to discuss logos and details.
