HM Royal Marines Band Collingwood will return to Deal on Monday for the 25th anniversary of the Deal bombing.

There will be a short memorial service at 8am in the Garden of Remembrance, Canada Road, for families of the 11 Royal Marines who were killed when the IRA detonated a bomb at the School of Music barracks on September 22, 1989.

Maj Gen Martin Smith, as Captain of Deal Castle, will host invited guests at a gathering there at 6.15pm. The Band of the Royal Marines will then beat retreat on the promenade at Deal Castle.

This week's East Kent Mercury reported the service was starting at 8am. We apologise for the error.
