Dover Lifeguards Club challenges nation's sports clubs in Ice Bucket Challenge at Dover Leisure Centre, Townwall Street,

Swimmers from Dover Lifeguard Club challenged every sports Club in Britain before doing their Ice Bucket Challenge - Mexican Wave Style.

About 50 youngsters, who train at Dover Leisure Centre, lined one length of the 25m pool this morning at 7am before drenching themselves one by one. They then turned on their coaches, chucking water and even pushing one in at the deep end.

A video of the fundraising challenge was posted by a parent on Facebook.

It shows about 50 youngsters, eagerly awaiting their watery fate. Then comes a man's voice who says: "We challenge every swimming club in Kent, every sports club in Dover and every swimming club in Britain." They take it in turns to soak themselves and then the coaches get the same treatment.

"Vice chairwoman Claire Herrington said: "We were raising money for Pilgrims Hospices because one of our swimmers and his mum lost a member of their family recently who was cared for at the hospice. WE wanted to do something for one of our swimmers to help them."

The fundraiser was the brainchild of head coach Tim Hyde. Swimmers, ranging from ages six to adult filled their buckets from the pool water and added ice to give the morning a chilly start at 7am.

Mrs Herrington added: "We raised £200 this morning and Tim, who works for the Post Office, will try to get match funding so we can donate more to the hospice."

So sports clubs of Dover - and Britain, you have 48 hours!
