Four teenagers have been arrested after allegedly carrying imitation firearms in Dover.

Armed police officers were called to the High Street at about 2.50pm yesterday following reports men were carrying guns.

Kent Police said a group of youngsters was discovered in possession of three BB guns close to the Charlton Centre.

Kent Police spokesman Jane Walker said four teenagers were arrested and are now in custody.

She quashed rumours an armed raid had taken place at Bailey's the Optician in the High Street.

The claims were posted online after police cars were spotted outside the opticians.
