Bringing their experience home, a couple who have lived and worked in Australia and New Zealand will open a new cocktail bar in Deal.
Anna Murray, 27, and Chris Vidler, 34, of Becket Close, Deal will officially open their new cafe and lounge bar The Lane, in South Court at 7pm on Saturday.
DJ Charlie C from Ashford will provide the music and customers who arrive early will receive a free glass of bubbly.
Miss Murray said: “We ran bars in Australia and New Zealand, that’s where we met.”
The venture is something they have both always wanted to do and when the opportunity arose in February, they got to work.
The building, formerly known as The Clock House has been completely refurbished, with a new lay out. Features include a feature wall and ceiling made of recycled cupboard doors and mirrors, exposed brick walls and stripped back lighting.
Miss Murray said: “We were going back and forth with names and The Lane just made sense. It’s simple.”
The Lane will serve breakfast, coffee and cakes during the day and wine, beer, premium spirits and cocktails by night.
The breakfast menu will be served from 9am until 11.30am during the week and from 8am until 11.30am at the weekends. Dishes include a Full English ‘The Lane Way’, Eggs Benedict, Eggs Royale, Aussie Classic Toasted Homemade Banana Bread, Fruit Smoothies and more.
Miss Murray, a trained barista and the business owner of Cup and Cake TW, will serve her homemade cupcakes including Maple and Bacon, Oreo and Jam Doughnut.
The cocktail list is varied, offering champagne cocktails, shooters and mocktails, served in old fashioned milk bottles.
Mr Vidler said: “In the winter, we will be serving hot cocktails. We want to be different and we want to be changeable.”
Jazzy house and soulful music will be played throughout the two storey building and visions of a small outdoor area, equipped with deck chairs and astro turf, is still on the cards.
In the upcoming months, the venue will be host guest chef nights, supper club nights and food tasting events.
