More than 50 musicians are busy this week taking part in the annual summer music school organised by the White Cliffs Symphonic Winds band.

It is the 10th year that the summer school has been organised, under the band’s director of music Graham Harvey, but it is in a new venue this year.

It’s taking place at the Beacon Church Hall in Bartholomew Street, where the band now holds its weekly rehearsals, after moving from St Edmund’s School.

Many of those taking part are young people, some of whom are just starting out on their musical studies and careers, although there are also some adults, including some who have taken up new instruments in the last year or so.

The instrumentalists are practising some pieces in ensembles each day, and then coming together to play other compositions.

The summer school reaches a climax tomorrow (Friday) evening when a concert is performed at 7.30pm.
