Thousands brave cold in search of treasure at Walmer Brocante 2017

A grey sky and a spot of rain didn’t deter people from flocking to the annual Brocante on Monday.

More than 2,000 people browsed a huge variety of stalls which pitched up on Walmer Green.

Vintage clothing, furniture, books, homewares, musical and military memorabilia, toys, jewellery and paintings were on sale as well as locally-made crafts.

Valuers Tony Pratt and Michael Roberts from The Canterbury Auction Galleries also popped by to assess items for visitors.

Some of the treasures included Clarice Cliff Art Deco ceramics, four white sapphires, some Russian amber and a large collection of designer costume jewellery from the early eighties.

Donations from the valuations and parking raised more than £150 to be shared between The Deal Memorial Bandstand Trust and the Walmer lifeboat, which held its own fundraising car wash on Saturday.

The Brocante is organised by Walmer Parish Council.

Parish clerk Kirsty Holroyd said: “The weather didn’t seem to affect any of the traders. They all said they had an excellent day and the car park was full.

“Our thanks go to everyone who supported the Brocante and helped raise money for Walmer charities.”
