A man has been charged with attempted murder after a machete was allegedly wielded at two police officers in Walmer.
Michael Alan Mankelow was charged after the incident in Downs Road yesterday morning.
The 57-year-old, who lives in the road, was due to appear in court today.
The alleged attack, just doors from the Downs Primary School, happened an hour after the busy school run at about 10am.
Officers had arrived at the house to make an arrest and called for back-up.
It is alleged officers were threatened and the machete was used to smash the windscreen of a police car - narrowly missing the face of an officer.
Two houses in Downs Road were sealed off with police tape and glass from the smashed police car was strewn over the road.
Officers stood guard of the scene while others waited with the vehicle before it was towed away.
A police forensics van was also on scene as part of the investigation.
