Work to begin on 223 new homes in Station Road in Walmer

The construction of 223 new homes in Walmer could begin as early as June.

The new controversial development on land off Station Road has been named Millers Retreat and will consist of broad mix of housing from one-bedroom apartments up to five-bedroom houses.

Developers Sunningdale House, who have taken over the project from Taylor Wimpey, are currently responsible for Nursery Fields - a 32-home development in The Street, Worth.

The planning application was approved by Dover District Council in November 2014.

The application was recommended for approval by the officer but received objections from Walmer Parish Council, residents living in Station Road, John Tapping Close and Mayers Road.

There was also a petition with 22 signatures from caravan owners in Clifford Park.

At the time, Cllr Pat Heath of Walmer Parish Council said: “Over 200 people attended public meetings in Walmer to register their objections to this application.

“There is a lot of concern as Station Road and Mayor’s Road are subject to regular flooding because the site slopes towards them.

“The development will increase traffic along Station Road and thereby increase the scale of the queues waiting to get on to Dover Road.”

Sunningdale House is based at Discovery Park in Sandwich.
