The council has denied rumours that Aycliffe park is to be replaced with homeless flats, the Mercury can reveal.

The park was demolished last Monday following safety concerns. Dover District Council said the play equipment was "too old."

It was then suggested that the old park site would be use to accommodate the homeless.

A DDC spokesman said: “The land at Aycliffe will be left as public open space.

"There are no plans to build flats to accommodate the homeless on it.

"We continue to work with members of the community to look at options for play area provision in Aycliffe for the future.

"This builds on previous community engagement on play areas in Aycliffe, including work by the Communication and Engagement Team, who held two events at Aycliffe Post Office, and distributed surveys to households in the autumn.”
