Ferries delayed at Port of Dover as bad weather hampers sailings

All of Kent's ferry companies are warning of delays this morning because of bad weather in the Channel.

DFDS Seaways, My Ferry Link and P&O say their services from Dover to Calais are disrupted..

A spokesman for the Port of Dover said conditions were moderate, with force 4 winds and good visibility.

But the port was experiencing high volumes of freight traffic.

Carolynne O’Neill, terminal control officer, said: "The Port of Dover, together with its major ferry partners, will do all that it can to minimise any customer delays and community impact.

"Customers are therefore advised to allow plenty of time for their journey and the community should consider using alternative local routes to move around the area where possible."

She urged passengers to contact their shipping operator for further information.

Meanwhile, the roads are also getting jammed, with queueing traffic and one lane blocked on A20 coastbound between the A260 at White Horse Hill and the A2 for the Eastern Docks Roundabout.

Queueing freight for the Port of Dover is in lane one of two, but non-freight traffic can pass in lane two.

All lorries approaching the Port of Dover are advised to use the M20.

There is also queueing freight traffic at M20 J11a for the Channel Tunnel.
