Burlington House set to come under council ownership by early summer

Burlington House is expected to come under the council's ownership by early summer, an announcement has revealed.

Dover District Council published an update on its Invest in Dover website today.

It said work may start in September subject to the conclusion of legal formalities.

It claims that the compulsory purchase order of the 12-storey office block and the multi-storey car park is going according to plan.

It reads: "The compulsory purchase of land not currently in the council’s ownership is progressing as planned.

"There are still some legal formalities to complete but the period for judicial review has now passed. We anticipate taking full possession in early summer."

It also confirmed that tenders are being sought for the demolition Burlington House and County Hotel.

It said: "Demolition is expected to start on the multi storey car park first.

"Full details of the demolition plans, including any impact on the local community will be announced in due course."
