A MOTORIST had a lucky escape this afternoon when his car slipped into the sea at Dover Harbour (Graham Tutthill writes).

The man was attempting to recover an inflatable boat from the harbour when the vehicle - with a trailer attached to the back of it - slipped down the slipway and into the water. He managed to close all the windows and get out of the car.

It then floated around the end of the jetty and became stuck, still in the water, on the beach the other side.

Another vehicle was used to recover the trailer, and a recovery vehicle pulled the car to safety.
