Display boards now inform residents about Dover Town Investment Zone development

Boards showing the progress of the Dover Town Investment Zone are now on display.

The boards at Dover Gateway in Castle Street include a timeline of works to conclude the development, set to be finished by spring 2016.

Tim Ingleton, Dover District Council’s head of inward investment, came under fire when residents said they were unhappy with the lack of updates. It was then suggested updates should be made when new facts were available.

Cllr Kevin Mills has since pushed for the boards to go up at the Gateway.

The updates say the council is still waiting on a compulsory purchase order of land in the St James’s area which will allow for the demolition of Burlington House and County Hotel.

Once finished, the complex will include a six-screen Cineworld cinema, an M&S Simply Food store and a Frankie & Benny’s restaurant.

The online document reads: “The hotel, a restaurant unit, and two retail units are currently under offer, with legal agreements scheduled to exchange this side of Christmas.”
