More than 90 kilos of diazepam seized in Dover

A man has appeared in court charged with importing around 92kg of diazepam with a street value of £250,000 into the country.

Balgo Apleza, a Croation national with no fixed address in the UK, withheld his plea when he stood before Canterbury Magistrates' Court.

He has been remanded into custody to await his next appearance at the same court on Monday, April 30.

He was arrested at Dover's Eastern Docks on Friday, March 30 when border force officers stopped a Citreon C5 which was allegedly found to be carrying tablets of diazepam, often referred to by its trade name Valium.

Following Alpeza's arrest, the investigation was passed to the National Crime Agency and the defendant was charged with the attempted drugs importation.
