Firefighters tackle tractor units blaze in Whitfield

Three HGV tractor units have been destroyed in a suspected arson attack in Whitfield.

Firefighters and police were called to the blaze in Menzies Road at around 1am.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and compressed air foam to tackle the fire and stop it from spreading.

A further three tractor units - a heavy-duty towing engine for hauling heavy loads - were heat damaged.

A fire service spokesman said the cause of the fire is believed to be suspicious and is being investigated.

Teams left the scene at around 3.40am.
