Head teacher Fiona Chapman said: "We cannot comment on matters relating to individual students.

"However, we can confirm a number of students have received fixed term exclusion for drug-related offences.

"We adopt a very strong stance when dealing with drug-related incidents in order to ensure the safety and well-being of all our students and we always deal with disciplinary issues in the most appropriate way.

"An extensive investigation was conducted by senior members of staff and all parents were contacted at the end of the investigation to inform them of the outcome."

Kent police have been called and a spokesman said: "We were called at 4.12pm on Thursday, March 2, 2017, to a report that two pupils at Dover Grammar School had been found in possession of drugs.

"Two small packets – one containing traces of cannabis and another a substance reported to be ketamine – were confiscated by staff and have since been seized by police for destruction.

"The school has taken disciplinary action against the pupils concerned and a police officer has spoken to their parents. The officer also visited the school to speak to other students about the dangers of taking illegal substances.

"Inquiries into the source of the drugs are ongoing."
