Demi Rhodes has hair shaved at packed Railway Bell pub to donate locks to charity

A brave Dover woman had 14 inches of hair shaved off last night in a bid to donate her locks and raise cash for charity.

Demi Rhodes, 23, of King's Ropewalk in Aycliffe, had more than £1,200 in sponsors that will go to Macmillan nurses who care for cancer patients.

Her hair will be given to the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs from donations for children with cancer.

She said: "We did my hair into plaits first for people to bid and snip them off, £255 was raised just for that."

Miss Rhodes had been planning the fundraiser at the Railway Bell pub in London Road, but admitted feeling a little nervous beforehand.

The head shave was in front of a packed audience.

She said: "I feel really strange, the fact I can't brush my hair, and when I had a bath it was really weird not doing my normal washing hair routine.

"I watched a video back of the shave and felt a little emotional.

"I'm just overwhelmed at all the support."

She will be wearing a wig to work until her hair re-grows.

Miss Rhodes is still accepting cash donations until the end of next week.
