Decapitated animal found in Minerva Avenue, Dover, by Folkestone worker Clint Geens

A dog walker has told of the horrific moment he saw a headless animal lying on the road.

Clint Geens took on the grisly task of scooping the corpse into a plastic bag to hide the distressing sight from passing children.

He then alerted police.

Mr Geens said: "I was horrified. It was a small animal and I couldn't tell if it was a cat or rabbit.

"But it looked like its head had been ripped clean off.

"I think it was done maliciously because this just didn't look like roadkill."

Mr Geens, 47, of Mayfield Avenue, Dover, saw the corpse as he was walking his dog in nearby Minerva Avenue at 6.50am today.

The body was next to a parked car on the road side and had no other injuries

He said: "From a distance I thought it had been run over and being an animal lover I went over to see what I could do. Then I saw that it had absolutely no head. I then looked under the car to see if the head was there.

"I would have taken that away in case any young mums and children passed.

"But then it dawned on me that there was no blood, which you would expect.

"The body was white with black and tan spots so I'm certain it was a pet. No wild rabbit would look like that."

Mr Geens, who works for the Red Eagle recruitment specialist in Sandgate Road, Folkestone, took the corpse in the bag to keep in his garden for police to remove.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police received a report that a decapitated animal had been found in Minerva Avenue, Dover, at 7.16am.

"At present it is not known how the animal came to sustain the injury or what type of animal it is."

Mr Geens has wondered if this is the work of a serial animal slaughterer, possibly the M25 Cat Killer.

The fiend, believed to be a man in his 40s, is thought to have killed dismembered and beheaded more than 400 cats across England.

The killings starting in Croydon, London, in 2014 and have eventually spread around the country.

Attacks in Kent have included the decapitation of a cat in Maidstone in July 2016 and the mutilation of one in Otford the following month.

A cat was killed in Chatham last October.

Mr Geens also got in contact with the London animal rescue charity SNARL (South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty), which is heavily involved in helping in that investigation.
