He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The inquest into his death was opened and adjourned this morning.

A post-mortem examination revealed that he died of multiple injuries.

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses.

The first car is described as possibly a Renault Megane or a Mazda, with part registration GJ13.

Officers are particularly keen to trace a driver who stopped at the scene and may be an important witness.

Insp Martin Stevens said: “We are keen to hear from the driver of a hatchback vehicle, partial registration number GJ13.

“The driver is a white male in his 40s and he initially stopped at the scene.

“Unfortunately he left before our officers had a chance to take his details and he may be unaware that we need to speak to him.

“I would ask this man to contact us as soon as possible.”

Witnesses to the incident are urged to call the appeal line on 01622 798538 or email sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk.
