Paramedics tended to the toddler who was suffering from head injuries.

He was then taken to William Harvey Hospital in Ashford by road ambulance.

In an appeal on Facebook, his mum, Ms Cullen said: “As many of you know one of our two-year-olds ran into the road on Barton Road yesterday after escaping out the front door, resulting in him being knocked over.

“Could I ask you all to please help us find the driver as we would like to let him know that our son is fine and check that he is also okay.

“His quick reactions very likely saved our son from serious injuries or potentially worse.

“We’d also like to thank everyone else that was there helping and making sure he was okay.”

The post was shared 262 times in just three hours and was followed by Ms Cullen confirming she had found the driver and would be in touch with him soon to thank him.

She said the two-year-old ran out of the front door of their home and into the road.

Barton Road and Pencester Road were closed for the rest of the afternoon, which also affected bus services.

Bernard Scott, owner of Cherry Tree Plumbing in Cherry Tree Avenue, saw the air ambulance land at the junior school and took the video.
