Sue Jones was mayor of Dover from 2009 to 2011, she is the managing director of a community interest company and has retail, tourism and personnel experience.

She said the group’s main aim was to bring premises back into local ownership, explaining: “We want to reverse the retail decline.”

Cllr Jones is both on Dover’s district and town councils.

John Lamoon is a Dover town councillor and a construction site manager. He has spent 40 years in the construction industry.

Newly-elected chairman of the board is former Dover Mercury reporter Graham Tutthill.

He retired in November 2013 after 48 years as a local reporter in Dover and is now an Honorary Freeman of the town.

He said: “Having lived in Dover all my life I am keen to become involved in an initiative, which can make a real difference to the town.

“There are a number of redevelopment and regeneration schemes taking place at the moment and I think LoveDover can make a useful contribution to the town centre.”

The four join the original trustees, Dover mayor Neil Rix, town clerk Allison Burton and estate agent Simon Crowley.

More trustees were needed, particularly those with experience in chairing and finance.

There are two other applications to consider but a couple more candidates are wanted, particularly those with experience as a treasurer.

LoveDover was set up as a charitable organisation by Dover Town Council last year.

The authority agreed to provide £350,000 to get it started.

The charity has already brought one building in Market Square, the Dickens Corner cafe, which was due to close and could have been left empty.

Now the cafe business is continuing at least until September and the first floor is being made available for community use.

Plans are being considered for its long term use.
