Residents in Randolph Road in Dover forced to move out

Residents have spoken of their shock after a housing association served eviction notices on 12 families living in the same street.

The bombshell came as Riverside Housing Association announced the NHS had not renewed the association's lease on the buildings in Randolph Road, Dover.

The homes are located near to Buckland Hospital, and will be handed back to the NHS.

Megan Finn, 25, has lived in Randolph Road for three years with her husband Tyler, 28, and her three children Henry, 7, Pheobe, 4 and seven-week-old Faith.

She said: "I was shocked. I didn't know what to say."

Two people from the housing association showed up on her doorstep two weeks ago to give her the news.

She has until the end of March to move out.

"It's quite stressful. I thought about going to talk to Dover District Council to see if they can help," she said.

"Riverside was supposed to speak to them last Monday but we never heard anything.

"It would have been nice to get something in writing instead of them just turning up."

Mrs Finn explained she will be making a complaint to Riverside for the way the situation has been handled.

She added: "We need to find somewhere within walking distance to the school, I don't want to change their school and put them through all that."

Her older children attend Green Park primary school and Mrs Finn now has concerns about where she is going to move to.

Riverside Operations Manager Bev Covington said: “We can confirm that we are reaching the end of a lease between Riverside and the NHS that was for a key worker scheme and that we are handing the properties back to the NHS.

"The tenants vary between NHS key workers and general needs families.

"We are working with Dover District Council to ensure that all the households involved will be accommodated in alternative homes. The tenants have been kept informed every step of the way and we have a team of staff supporting every aspect of their relocation.”

A spokesman for East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust said: "East Kent Hospitals owns some of the properties on Randolph Road, which had been leased to a local housing association. This lease is due to expire naturally soon, giving the trust an opportunity to look at options for the site."
