River runners raring to race in Brighton Marathon next month

Seven Dovorians, who have called themselves the River Runners, are training to take part in the Brighton Marathon next month.

The group will run in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that helps those suffering from the disease and their families.

The bunch consists of Claire Bond and her twin Jo Graeme, Sam Turk, Helen Campbell, Helen Levitt, Sarah Simms and Paul Newing, who live in Kearsney, River and Temple Ewell.

Macmillan is the chosen charity because Mrs Graeme’s sister-in-law Nada is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Mrs Graeme said: “We all thought we could try and raise as much as we can for the charity because we feel that this is such a worthy cause.”

Each person hopes to raise £200 and to prepare for the 26.2 mile run on April 12, they have been doing three to five runs each week, varying from five to 20 miles.

Miss Bond, a nurse, said: “What do you think three nurses, a train driver, a border force officer and a cake maker have in common?

“We are primarily connected through River School. We had a crazy moment at the school gates last summer, and all agreed to enter the marathon.”
