People risking their lives at the White Cliffs of Dover

This terrifying scene shows an adult with a small child peering over the edge of the White Cliffs of Dover.

The drop is as high as 350ft and clifftop can collapse without warning.

In another equally disturbing case a man was sitting down with his legs dangling over.

Ted Prangnell, a visitor to the area, photographed the horrifying spectacle as a warning to others.

He noticed the reckless behaviour as he walked from the visitor centre car park to the South Foreland Lighthouse but was shocked to see it still going on when he returned.

Now HM Coastguard has advised people to stay safely away from the edge of the cliffs because of the risk of cliff falls.

As the summer tourist season approaches the authority says that people should never be tempted to investigate or take risks to get a dramatic photograph.

They should stay on designated paths instead.

The White Cliffs are notorious for fatal falls and it is not the first time people have taken horrifying risks in the area.

Last year a youth was photographed balancing on one foot on a fence post, above an 80ft drop.
