Palmerston Road, Whitfield , immigration officials called after eight people found in lorry.

Immigration officials were alerted after eight foreign men were found inside a lorry.

They were discovered at Palmerston Road, Whitfield.

Kent Police were initially called out, at 2.43pm yesterday (Thursday) .

A force spokesman said that day: “Officers attended and the eight people discovered are being handed over to the Home Office immigration enforcement facility in Dover.”

The men are believed to be five Afghans, two Iraqis and one Iranian.

A Home Office spokesman said: “ Eight men, who presented themselves as being from Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran were referred to the Home Office for their cases to be dealt with.

“All cases will be progressed in line with the UK immigration rules.

“ Where someone has no right to remain in the UK we will take action to remove them.”
