Image of Dover's Samphire Hoe area representing when it was Channel Tunnel construction site

This would have been what Samphire Hoe would have looked like 25 years ago.

The present tranquil nature reserve was then an amazing night time scene of industry as the Channel Tunnel was being built.

After the tunnel was opened, in 1994, the land was reclaimed using spoil from the works.

Now managers at the reserve are encouraging visitors to come to visit Samphire Hoe, at 11am tomorrow (Sunday) to recreate that former night scene.

This is a family event with children aged over four welcome.

Visitors should call in at the site's sheltered teaching area.

This is the 20th anniversary year of the opening of the land, at Samphire Road, Dover, as a nature reserve.

An exhibition, called The Making of Samphire, documents the reconstruction of the site and the gradual takeover of it by animals and plants.

It continues at the visitor centre every day, from 11am to 3pm, until Thursday, August 31.
