Person dies after being hit by a train near Canterbury East station

A person has died after being struck by a train at Canterbury East station this morning.

Police and ambulance crews were called at 8am with the incident not currently being treated as suspicious.

Officers are currently working to identify the person and inform their next-of-kin.

Trains between Faversham and Dover Priory were delayed, as emergency services dealt with the incident.

Southeastern warned trains were expected to be cancelled, delayed, or suspended until noon.

Replacement buses ran between Faversham and Dover.

Services were still operating from Canterbury West, for all passengers travelling between Canterbury and London or Dover.

Just after 11am, Southeastern tweeted to say all services were set to resume as normal.
