Dover Town Investment Zone updates now available on Dover District Council website

Residents eager to find out more about the progress of Dover Town Investment Zone (DTIZ) can now access regular updates online.

The district council’s website, called Invest in Dover, now contains a document of updates and an indicative development programme.

This comes after a row erupted at an update meeting earlier this month, with residents claiming the council wasn’t doing enough to keep people up-to-date.

Cllr Kevin Mills told the Mercury: “It has got to be a living document because things will move on at a pace when the compulsory purchase order decision is out.”

A three-day public inquiry in September looked into the compulsory purchase of buildings in the St James’ and Russell Street areas. It is hoped a decision will be made before or just after Christmas.

Cllr Mills said: “The public needs to be made aware. We have waited several years for this, we need to know the message. I hope this addresses some of the public’s concerns.”

Cllr Mills added that display boards will soon go up at the Gateway in Castle Street.

The website now also includes a timeline of development activity right up until its proposed completion date in spring 2016.

The development, in the St James Street and Russell Street area, is set to house a multiplex cinema, M&S Simply Food, a hotel and Frankie & Benny’s restaurant.

The council has claimed that 70% of the units will be under offer before Christmas and names of these chains will be released publicly.
