Yobs can be reported on estate hotline

A HOTLINE has been set up for information on anyone involved in anti-social behaviour on the Buckland Estate at Dover.

Police are urging residents to use the line to report persistent troublemakers.

"A small number of individuals who live on the Buckland Estate are responsible for a disproportionate amount of anti-social behaviour problems," said Sgt Guy Thompson, of the strategic crime reduction unit.

"We want members of the public to call us to let us know what is happening, where it is happening and who is involved."

Posters promoting the hotline number, 01303 289200, have been printed and will be distributed around the area in the next few weeks.

The information will be monitored by a designated anti-social behaviour co-ordinator and could be used to compile evidence to allow action to be taken against the offenders.

The police, in partnership with other agencies, such as the local authority housing services and social services, can apply for Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs) to keep persistent offenders in check but need evidence and the support of residents.

"This hotline number is to empower the residents of the Buckland Estate whose quality of life has been affected by anti-social behaviour," said Sgt Thompson.

"I would urge people to give us as much information as possible so that we can take action. If they have any concerns they can call the number anonymously."

Callers can leave a message on the answer phone if the hotline is not answered.
