Dover Athletic 0 Solihull Moors 0 - match report

Dover were frustrated by solid Solihull as Whites' National League play-off push suffered a blow at Crabble on Saturday.

The visitors arrived in 15th, just eight points ahead of the drop-zone, however they matched their hosts, who remain in fifth, and deserved the point they earned with a hard-working display.

To make matters worse a frustrated Ricky Miller collected his 10th booking of the season and will miss Dover's next two games.

In a surprise to many, the organised visitors bossed much of the opening exchanges, passing the ball about with aplomb and not allowing Dover - unchanged from Tuesday's shock 1-0 loss at Woking - to string any passes together.

However for all their dominance Nicky Deverdics' glancing header across the face of his own goal from a Moors corner was as close as either side came in the opening 15 minutes.

At the other end Richard Orlu and Ricky Miller lashed well off-target as Dover's frustrations grew, but they did improve as the half wore on and Jamie Grimes glanced a header over the target from a Deverdics cross.

Bondz N'Gala rose highest to meet another set-piece but could not get his attempt on target while on 33 minutes some Miller magic bought him space on the edge of the box but his rising shot was helped over the bar by teenage Chelsea loan keeper Nathan Baxter.

The only real chance of the half saw Deverdics drop a shoulder to wriggle between two defenders on the right of the area on 38 minutes and fire in a low cross which was met by Aswad Thomas ghosting in at the far post, only for Baxter to get down well to block his low shot on the line.

Two minutes later Ricky Modeste lofted in a cross from the right which was chested down by Miller at the far post, only for him to drag his low shot wide of the near post.

After the break Lafayette showed his confidence i intact despite a run of one goal since November with a 25-yard volley after chesting the ball down, but he pulled his effort just past the post.

The end-to-end pattern continued as Ashley Sammons sent a 25-yard free-kick straight at Steve Arnold for what was his first save of note, while six minutes after the interval Miller went down under pressure in the box and while his frenzied appeals were waved away, Modeste's follow up was held by Baxter.

Soon after Jamie Grimes' searching ball over the top allowed Miller to beat the offside trap but the bouncing ball got stuck under his feet allowing Baxter to gather.

Dover's chances dried up though a Deverdics corner caused mayhem and allowed Miller to nod goalwards, only for Baxter to pounce.

Sammons saw a 20-yard free-kick deflected over the bar by Lafayette in the Whites wall and Oladapo Afolayan saw a low shot held by Arnold.

A frustrated Miller lashed over from an angle in the final 15 minutes as Dover sought to continue their run of scoring in every game at Crabble this season but his frustration got the better of him and he collected his 10th booking of the season, for dissent, just seven minutes from the end of the game - his final appearance before the FA amnesty.

Lafayette sent in a low shot from 20 yards with four minutes left but Baxter gathered with ease and Dover could not find a way through Moors' well-organised backline before the final whistle with the final chance falling to Moors sub Danny Udoh who drew a low save from Arnold in the final minute of stoppage-time.
