Dover Athletic skipper Mitch Brundle says Whites will have to graft to get a result at Halifax

Dover skipper Mitch Brundle says games like the one at Halifax on Tuesday are what separate the men from the boys in the Vanarama National League.

Whites have launched the season with two wins from three - the first of which was at Hartlepool on the opening day - and, as they prepare for another long trip north, Brundle admits he expects it to be very bit as tough

Brundle, who was among the standout performers in Saturday's 1-0 home win over Wrexham, said: "These are the sort of games where if you look at the end of the season, they're the games that put you up in the play-offs or even get you promoted.

"You look at the likes of Lincoln (last year's champions), they go away on a Tuesday night and graft - it sorts the men out from the boys.

"On Tuesday we know we're going to have to be men and that's what we'll be looking for because that's how you win games like this.

"It's going to be tough, they're going to put you under pressure, with balls into your box and it's a long trip but there's no excuses here, the chairman is doing everything right so we have no complaints with that.

"We'll just get there and hopefully all be ready to go and get the three points."

Brundle admitted Whites were delighted with Saturday's win over Wrexham - their first at Crabble this season - but he feels they can play better.

The 22-year-old midfielder added: "Wrexham are a hard team to play against, I’ve played against them a few times, they’re normally solid, very experienced and they’ll be up there, with us and a probably a few of the other favourites so it’s a massive win in that respect.

“We were all a bit disheartened after Tuesday (when Whites lost 2-1 to Bromley). We had the chances to win the game, we didn’t play our best which hurt the lads so it was great to get back to winning ways and get our first win at home.

“You have to do the hard graft and that’s what I think we did better (against Wrexham) than we did on Tuesday, defend properly, win the first headers and the second balls.

“I think it showed the character in the dressing room because everyone worked so hard, you could see people walking off the pitch and they’d put in 100% but there’s still work to be done.

“I think we can play better, we didn’t create the same amount of chances as we did against Bromley so we know we can play better but walking away with three points knowing that you haven’t played to your best it gives you a really good boost.”
