Dover Athletic manager on Ricky Miller following striker's 10th booking of the season

Dover manager Chris Kinnear says Ricky Miller needs to master his on-field emotions if he is to make it to the top.

Dover's 30-goal talisman went into his final game before the FA suspension amnesty against Solihull at Crabble on Saturday with nine bookings, one short of a two-match ban.

However just seven minutes from time the former Luton man picked up a yellow card for dissent which left Kinnear with his head in his hands on the touchline.

It was perhaps the biggest blow for Whites on an afternoon when they were thwarted by resolute defending from Solihull who were delighted with their point from a 0-0 draw.

A defensive Kinnear admitted: "It is a silly booking, but there you go. It's a silly booking, what else?"

Pressed on Miller's visible frustration, he however added: "He gets pulled back, kicked and pushed over and he's not protected - you are going to get frustrated.

"He's got to make sure he's above that. If you're going to be a top player you've got to be above that because that's the only way some people can stop you. It's part of the game."

Miller is set to miss Dover's Tuesday night games against Boreham Wood and Bromley later this month with the Kent Senior Cup semi-final against Folkestone on Monday night not believed to count towards his ban.

It was the first time this season that Dover have failed to score infront of their own fans and followed a shock 1-0 defeat at Woking on Tuesday night, though Dover remain in fifth after a day when just two of the top-nine won.

Kinnear claimed: "I didn't think a draw was a fair result, how many chances did we have? But that's what we've got to cope with, teams coming here and sticking lots of people at the back and in midfield so we can't break them down. That's football and that's their prerogative.

"It was the same against Woking, we should have maybe converted a few of the opportunities we had, but again, they stuck people back and hit us on the break.

"That's the way football is, but we're still in the play-off positions aren't we? We're disappointed but we have got to move on."

He added: "It's hard to create lots of chances if they've got people behind the ball but there's nothing wrong with that if people want to play like that.

"We've got ourselves a reputation now as a decent team and they've gone away (with a point and a clean sheet) really, really pleased.

"We're disappointed but I'm sure the other sides at the top that didn't win are going to be disappointed as well."

Dover's lead over the play-off chasing pack is just a point but Kinnear added: "There's a long way to go. Who knows what position we're playing for?

"There's 11 games to go, 33 points available. We're going to try and win every game, we may not, it's going to be difficult, but we'll give it a good go."
